The “Invalid Stop Loss” or “Invalid Take Profit” error occurs when the levels you set for Stop Loss or Take Profit do not comply with the platform’s requirements. This issue may also arise when placing pending orders, such as Buy Limit or Sell Limit. Below is a detailed guide to help you understand the causes and resolve this error effectively.
Pending Order Type |
Price Direction |
|---|---|
| Buy Stop | Set above current ask price |
| Sell Stop | Set below current bid price |
| Buy Limit | Set below current ask price |
| Sell Limit | Set above current bid price |
Make sure the right kind of pending order is being used as they behave differently, which means errors can happen if they are used incorrectly. Here’s a brief guide on how to set up the pending order price (while opening an order).
It is not possible to set a pending order including SL/TP at the current prices because of the technical limitations of the trading terminal.
Adding a Stop Loss or Take Profit to an Order
Take profit
Take profit is a pending order set with the expectation of a better price, that will automatically close the order when the set amount of profit is reached.
Stop loss
Stop loss is a pending order, set with the expectation of a worse price, that will automatically close the order when the set amount of loss is reached.
Follow the instructions below depending on your order type and chosen pending order:
| Order Type | Pending Order Type |
Price Direction |
|---|---|---|
| Buy | Stop Loss | Set below current bid price |
| Take Profit | Set above current bid price | |
| Sell | Stop Loss | Set above current ask price |
| Take Profit | Set below current ask price |
Please keep in mind that stop loss and take profit (SL/TP) can be set any time after an order is placed, the expectation of profit or loss must be based on the current price as the pending order is set, and not the opening price of the order. It is possible to close an order with take profit that still results in a loss because it was set at a price worse than the opening price, the same applies for the stop loss.
